Biography

Ben Georgia, born in Jersey City, NJ in 1941, attended Rutgers University where he earned his B.A. in 1965 and his M.A. in 1977. He also studied Art History at New York University in 1967. Georgia studied painting under Theodoros Stamos at Columbia University in 1969. He continued studying under Stamos at the Art Students’ League of New York from 1970-75. His painting style has evolved from his studies of Abstract Expressionism with Theodoros Stamos to a more idiosyncratic use of abstract form, color and light. His reputation is as a rich, subtle, painterly colorist who paints directly from his emotions as he reacts with life’s experiences, memories and his indepth knowledge of the history of art. Above all, Ben always paints with integrity and great feeling for life. A professional artist with an independent spirit, he has a 3,000 sq.ft. studio in West Orange, NJ , a winter studio in Lake Worth Beach, Florida and a summer studio in Eastport, Maine.
