Biography

Manuela Gonzalez (b. 1983) is a Lake Worth Beach-based artist originally from Medellín, Colombia, where she lived until immigrating to South Florida in 1997. She holds a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Yale University. Through the exploration of multiple materials, techniques, and media, Gonzalez’s studio practice has developed from closely examining the visual language of textiles — a medium deeply rooted in her family history — as it relates to the history of abstraction within the western canon.

Gonzalez’s work has been exhibited in Estamos Bien - La Trienal 20/21 at El Museo del Barrio, and the galleries at Cooper Union. Additionally, her work has been featured in publications such as The Brooklyn Rail and New American Painting, among others.
