Rooted in the traditions of craft and formal elements of design and expressionism, Melissa Delprete’s work combines atmospheric color fields and intuitive calligraphic mark-making. Her process is heavily informed by the archetypal qualities of wild spaces, and her compositions mimic the rhythmic patterns and currents of animate energy that span the natural world, metropolises and the human psyche.
Originally from New York, Delprete received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and then her MS in Art Education from LIU Post. She is currently based in Lake Worth Beach, FL and in 2021 she founded mtn space, a gallery that focuses on exhibiting the work of emerging and established artists.
At 500 Lake Ave., an older graying building sits on the corner, awaiting renovation from new owner Melissa Delprete. The commercial lot in Lake Worth Beach had a lengthy ownership prior to being sold. “It was owned by the same person since the ’70s. The plans are for it to be an art studio, and it’s a great spot for it,” said Albright.
