LAKE WORTH | Matt Vought

mtn space is pleased to present a launch celebration for local artist Matt Vought’s new book, Lake Worth, published by Perceval Press, the California-based imprint founded by Viggo Mortensen. A selection of black and white editioned prints from the book is on view through July 13.

Working in stripped-down, monochromatic compositions, Vought creates images that are spare, unpeopled, and quietly atmospheric. All photographs in Lake Worth were made in his South Florida hometown, where he turns his attention to overlooked details of the urban landscape cloud formations, standing water, power lines, and streetlights, revealing what he describes as “an unrecognized beauty in the most prosaic of our urban environments.”

Rather than documenting place in a traditional sense, Vought is guided by mood and liminal experience. His images often inhabit transitional moments, dusk settling in, light fading, forms dissolving, where the ordinary becomes reflective and uncanny. Drawn to shifting skies and fleeting reflections, he builds a visual language rooted in repetition and quiet observation.

As Mortensen writes, the work reflects “a lifetime spent steering what is steerable and allowing the wind and clouds to determine the rest.” The result is a meditative collection that invites viewers to pause, look closely, and consider the subtle emotional and visual rhythms of everyday surroundings.

Matt Vought will be sitting in the gallery Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 3 PM - 7 PM through July 3rd.

mtn space is currently open by appointment, to schedule a visit outside of the artist’s hours listed above please contact Melissa at Info@mtnspace.com.
