mtn space gallery is pleased to present 1,001 Heads (and Other Tales), a solo exhibition of work by self-taught artist Maxine Spector. The exhibition will include a selection of paintings, and will be the first time 1,001 of the artist’s ceramic heads will be on view outside her home.
Spector began creating ceramics in 2019 after exploring heads in paint and deciding to take the theme to a three-dimensional medium, ultimately creating a series of over 1,000. Using an entirely intuitive process without prior planning, Spector’s heads are each unique and explore the individuality of her developed characters.
Also intuitive are Spector’s paintings and works on paper featuring scenes from nature, sometimes serving as landscapes for her heads' storylines. These meditative pieces are created en plein air and are inspired by forces of nature and the human condition.
Maxine Spector is a self-taught artist living and working in Lake Worth Beach, FL. This is her first solo exhibition with mtn space gallery.
