Mtn Space gallery in Lake Worth Beach will unveil an exhibit of new bodies of work by New York-based painter Lily Morris, February 10.
In Lily Morris: Witchcraft, several of the artist’s large-scale photorealistic paintings of women in unearthly settings, such as Arrival (2023) and Descent (2022), will be showcased. The works imagine women free from repression, with Morris inserting herself within a framework to disrupt it from the inside.
The gallery will also exhibit pieces from the artist’s nautical series, referencing both her East Coast roots and the boats that brought witch hunts to the Americas.
The third body of work consists of smaller pieces based on Medieval woodblock prints with preserved moths attached to each surface.
The exhibition will kick off with a reception February 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
