mtn space gallery is pleased to present our second Annual Summer Show, a group exhibition of Palm Beach County-based artists, featuring the work of Amaya Estrada, Kim Fay, Jim Graham, and Laura Tanner. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, June 1, from 6-8pm.
Amaya Estrada, born in Northern Virginia, is a multimedia artist living and working in South Florida. Her work acts as a vessel of exploration into cultural identity and duality through the scope of installation, sculpture, painting, and print media. Unearthing tension between environmental art and handmade processes, her works also speak to a personal and environmental displacement where the two are intricately associated. Estrada received her BA from Palm Beach Atlantic University, and her work has been exhibited in Black Creativity at the Boynton Beach Art & Cultural Center and in Amaya Estrada: Apathy at Grandview Public Market in West Palm Beach, FL.
Kim Fay is a Delray Beach-based artist whose paintings capture interconnectedness and natural elements of life in South Florida. Her work features painted versions of photographs from the area, fusing common objects with astronomical phenomena. Fay’s work has been exhibited at the Arts Warehouse, Delray Beach; Society of the Four Arts, Palm Beach; and Tampa Museum of Art, among many others.
Jim Graham is a South Florida-based visual artist and educator whose work engages with the connections between landscape, identity, and climate as it specifically relates to lowland coastal communities. He is currently a Studio Art faculty member in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts & Letters at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL, and was formerly a Visiting Assistant Professor of Drawing and Painting at the University of Arizona (2018-22). Select recent solo and group exhibitions include the Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery, Miami, FL; Stove Works Gallery, Chattanooga, TN; Greenleaf Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; and The Cole Pratt Gallery, New Orleans, LA. Articles related to these recent exhibitions have been published in LUXE, the New Orleans Review, and Art + Design Magazine. Graham received his MFA from the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign (2013) and BFA from Florida State University (2010).
Straddling drawing and social practice, Laura Tanner’s creative works facilitate ongoing research into the correlation between local foodways and issues of social justice. Through collaborations with historical institutions and local communities, Tanner’s drawings act as visual archives of the stories and recipes shared during organized community events, in turn highlighting the unique social structures and challenges facing each community. Tanner has exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at the Springfield Art Museum, the Weatherspoon Art Museum, and the Susquehanna Art Museum. Her research has been supported through numerous fellowships and residencies, including A Studio in the Woods at Tulane University, the Ucross Foundation, and the Hambidge Center for the Creative Arts and Sciences. In 2023, select drawings from Tanner’s ongoing project, Dish, were selected for publication in the Fifth National Climate Assessment, a two-part congressionally mandated report by the U.S. Global Change Research Program with a mission to assess the science of climate change and variability and its impacts across the United States. Tanner currently lives and works in Boca Raton, FL.
The Annual Summer Show will be on view through August 3, 2024.
